On 27 September (Wed), SMASH Group Representative/SMASH International Audit Corporation Representative Partner, Dai Mori gave a presentation on the book ‘The Rules of Overseas Expansion Failure that Next Generation Leaders Need to Know’, which was published in September, at the venue of OBIC Corp.

The level of participants was very high, and we received a very practical talk with a lot of information exchange and opinions with a lot of suggestions for overseas expansion.

Nearly 30 eminent members gathered, including lawyers, CFOs, Certified Public Accountants, partners of major auditing firms, labour and social security attorneys, judicial scriveners, presidents of listed companies, people from the University of Tokyo, stock exchange officials, company executives, VCs, investors and industrialists with overseas offices.

One example of the lively discussion,

・What to keep in mind when expanding food service outlets overseas

・Handling unpaid overtime arising from remote work overseas

・How to handle bribes overseas

・What is the recent internal audit situation and fraud trends?

・What about subsidiary management by overseas companies?

・What do you do about insiders in foreign markets?

・How do you detect falsification of work history, etc…?

We, SMASH International, are involved in many internal control advisory projects for foreign companies as well as internal audits and governance support for overseas subsidiaries, and all of the above issues are commonplace. The lecture was full of the issues that companies expanding overseas are currently struggling with.

The book is available at bookstores nationwide and on Amazon.co.jp.
